Distribution center near Gardner is almost half done

The Kansas City industrial market is trying on its first 1 million-square-foot-plus distribution center for size, and as suspected, it appears to be extra large.
Rising from the Midwest Commerce Center at 175th Street and U.S. Highway 56 in Gardner and easily visible from nearby Interstate 35, the 1.1 million-square-foot Coleman Co. Inc. distribution center is 2,000 feet — or almost seven football fields — long.
The building is 45 percent complete after the recent erection of concrete walls that rise more than 40 feet in places, said Paul Licausi, president of LS Commercial Real Estate.
Overland Park-based LS Commercial is developing Midwest Commerce Center in conjunction with USAA Real Estate Co. of San Antonio. They selected St. Louis-based Clayco Inc. as general contractor because of Clayco’s extensive experience with big-box industrial structures, Licausi said.
